Tax Status and Scholarship upgrades

The DPSPAA has formed a 501c3 nonprofit.

A key benefit is it will allow us to administer our own scholarship program. This program is separate and in addition to our current scholarship program with Bloomsburg University Foundation (BUF). This program will include active brothers, dues paying alumni and immediate family of dues paying alumni.

WHY ARE WE DOING IT?

Bloomsburg University’s decision to not recognize Greek life is a driving factor. By starting our own scholarship program, we have added flexibility while also diversifying our portfolio beyond BUF. Plus, many alumni expressed a strong desire for us to do this.

WHEN WILL THIS HAPPEN?

The IRS has approved our 501C3 application. We are currently working on establishing accounts and a mechanism to receive contributions. We anticipate having this in place by Q2 of 2022. Once achieved, we will start fundraising specifically for our own scholarship program.

WILL WE STILL OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS VIA THE BLOOMSBURG UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION?

Yes,this program will continue. Specifically, for the Delta Pi brotherhood at Bloomsburg University . The board is currently working on the scholarship awards for 2022

HOW WILL THE NEW SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM WORK?

In short, we’ll expand eligible recipients to include active brothers, dues paying alumni, the immediate family of dues-paying alumni to any accredited U.S. post-secondary schools, including technical schools. That said, we’ll have the exact details via a separate email as we get closer to rollout in 2Q 2022.

IS MY DONATION TAX DEDUCTIBLE?

Your donation will be tax deductible.

WHEN SHOULD I WRITE A CHECK?

We will notify you directly once our accounts are in place and we have a mechanism to receive contributions. We had to wait until we had 501C3 status in order to establish these accounts. We simply want to make you aware of this news in advance of our fundraising efforts.

Vision Statement:

The Delta Pi/Sigma Pi Scholarship Foundation’s sole purpose is awarding of scholarships to contribute to the education of active Delta Pi brothers, alumni in good standing, and family of alumni. We will do this through raising funds and awarding scholarships aimed at enhancing the quality of life for our brotherhood and their families.

We are very excited about this and wanted to tee it up in advance. There is more to come on these topics as we continue to strengthen the best Greek Alumni association at Bloomsburg University.
